How much should it cost to replace timing belt in 2000 Honda Accord (4cy)?

Went to dealership for scheduled maintenance, they stated that I should replace my timing belt after 105k miles. There does not seem to be any issues with the performance of the vehicle; however, I was told that if the belt cracks, the engine would be destroyed. Dealership quoted $795 installed (including replacement of all other belts). I guess I believe that it should be replaced; however, I find it hard to believe that I would get the best quote from the dealership. How much should it cost to replace timing belt in 2000 Honda Accord (4cy)?You're on the right track. Without breaking down the labor, it's hard to say if their estimate is fair or not, but surely, it doesn't help to go to a couple locally owned auto shops and get a quote from them. If the car has what is known as an %26quot;interference fit engine%26quot; and the belt breaks, parts of the engine will %26quot;interfere%26quot; with each other and yes, it will be for most accounts, destroyed. Take it to a couple shops first before having the dealer do this project. How much should it cost to replace timing belt in 2000 Honda Accord (4cy)?At our shop we would charge about $800.

We would replace the timing belt, balance shaft belt, all idler pulleys, valve cover gasket, water pump and coolant. If it needed it we would also adjust the valves and double check the ignition timing once the new belts were installed.

You need to find a shop like mine.

The dealer usually only replaces the belts.

Your engine is an interference engine which means if your timing belt breaks it will damage the engine. When the belt breaks the camshaft and crankshaft will rotate out of time and the pistons will strike the valves. You will have bent valves and maybe cracked pistons and at the very least you will have to have the cylinder head taken off and have the valves replaced which starts at about $2000.
