How to adjust timing belt on a 1989 Suzuki Swift GTI DOHC?

Ok, here is the story. My motor mounts slipped on my Suzuki Swift, shredding the timing belt, and shutting the car off immediately. Now that I Have my car home, how do I put the new timing belt on and set it?How to adjust timing belt on a 1989 Suzuki Swift GTI DOHC?Are you sure it's the timing belt? I've never seen a Suzuki Swift engine, but there should be an external drive (serpentine) belt that drives the power steering, a/c, alternator, and maybe the water pump. There is an internal timing belt that you normally cannot see, because it's hidden behind covers. You need to be sure which belt you're referring to. The external belt is easy, and there should be a diagram under the hood that shows how to route the belt. The timing belt requires removing components to access the crank and camshaft pulleys, and then you have to carefully align timing marks or the engine will not run and may become damaged. This is not a do it yourself project for someone with no experience. At the very least, get a repair manual for the car and read the section on timing belt replacement to decide if it's something you can tackle. If not, take it to a shop and have them do the work. The timing belt is supposed to be replaced at specific mileage intervals, to prevent failure. How to adjust timing belt on a 1989 Suzuki Swift GTI DOHC?you can but a haynes manual that walks you through it step by step at most parts stores, but i'm concerned you may have bent some valves on that puppy. How to adjust timing belt on a 1989 Suzuki Swift GTI DOHC?Wow.

You're going to have a big job ahead of you.

Since it is a DOHC, you're going to have to loosen all the valve adjusters to get the timing marks to #1 cylinder TDC. Otherwise, the valves will hit the piston.

Then you align the timing marks, install the timing belt and readjust the valves.

Too bad it isn't an eight valve engine. You wouldn't have to do that.
