How often to replace timing belt and what else at the same time?

I have a Mazda MPV and Mazda protege.

How often should the timing belts be replaced.

I have also read the water pump should be replaced at the same time. Is this true? How often to replace timing belt and what else at the same time?Every 60,000 miles is the best recommendation for replacing a timing belt. You might get more mileage out of it, but why take the chance?

The water pumps on these two vehicles are not driven by the timing belt. They do however sit behind the cover with the timing belt so it is a good idea to inspect it while replacing the belt. Just check to made sure that it is not leaking and also check for any play in the bearings by trying to move the shaft of the pump back and forth. Also turn the shaft to make sure there are no rough spots or any excessive noise coming from the pump. There are some cars that I would recommend replacing the pump and belt at the same time (i.e. Ford Escorts) because the timing belt drives the pump but you should be OK without doing so on the models you mentioned.

Also make sure you check for any oil leaks coming from the crank and cam seals. This will cause premature belt failure. Hope this helps. How often to replace timing belt and what else at the same time? The MPV probably has a timing chain which rarely needs replacement. Paste the link below and ask that forum. It is recommended that the water pump be replaced and the tensioner. How often to replace timing belt and what else at the same time?Yes, most of these answers are correct! but not all{nice picture by the way}. The only engine that I know of that DOESN'T bend several valves when the timing belt brakes is the old 2000 or 2300 cc. Ford!----smart moves usually save bucks! this one saves mucho more than the cost of a water pump, so go ahead and do it is my advice. How often to replace timing belt and what else at the same time?usually timing belts are specifed at 60k miles. I would replace anything that is difficult to get at, while the car is apart, minimally you should change the timing belt tensioner. How often to replace timing belt and what else at the same time?60k.

It's crucial. How often to replace timing belt and what else at the same time? Why do you think you have to change them? Are the broke? This is not preventive maintenance! You shouldn't ever have to change a timing belt or chain
