How much to get new timing belt?

I have a 2001 Audi A4 and my mechanic said my timing belt is worn and i need to replace it. My question is what is the average price to replace a timing belt? my mechanic said he'll do it for $1600 but that sounds like way too much. p.s. if i do replace the timing belt how many more miles should my car last?(it has 102K right now)How much to get new timing belt?find another mechanic timing belts are not hard to do and all i can say is the belt will last as long as this one did I don't know about the rest of your car but if you take care of it they will last a while I had a Buick with 428 thousand miles on it and it still drove when i sold it and that wasn't a typo How much to get new timing belt? That probably is the right price. It is not the belt that cost it is the labor to install it. The belt on that car is probably around $250+ since it is a fancy car and then the rest would be the labor to get the old belt off and the new one on. Just ask your mechanic what is involved in changing it, he might have to pull the engine out or something. I know that my parents had a Nissan that you had to remove all the front body panels and the radiator and support to change the timing belt and it was like 10 hours labor. How much to get new timing belt?1600 does sound like a lot.

It isn't the part that is expensive, it is the labor involved.

I would check around for part prices and then call a few shops. You definitely need to have it replaced if you have never done it, if it breaks you end up needing a whole new engine. Then 1600 won't sound so bad.

I just had mine replaced in a 2001 Honda at a very reputable shop for 695 - but the dealership wanted 1150.

It is hard to say how much longer your car will last - it depends on how well you have maintained it up to this point. If you change the oil regularly, and don't drive hard it should go for at least 100,000 moreHow much to get new timing belt? The four cylinder calls for 4.7 hours of work and if you have the six cylinder it calls for 5.2 hours of work. So, if the hourly shop rate is $70.00. The 4 cylinder labor would be $329.00 You need to add parts also, the belt and tensioner would cost around $150.00. Around $479.00 total for the in-line four cylinder. Hope this helps. How much to get new timing belt?Assuming the car has the 1.8T engine, you are living on borrowed time, they should be done at 60K miles. If the belt breaks this is an interference engine, you will bend your valves all five in each cylinder. Its a very expensive repair. You must do the water pump at the same time, the plastic impeller pumps are meant to be replaced with the belt. The whole job should be under $1000, depending where you go.
