How can you tell your timing belt on your car is going?

Is there a way to tell that your timing belt on your car is about to go.How can you tell your timing belt on your car is going?I don't think the make a sound when they are about to go you'll just hear a big bang but if you hear like a squeaking noise then i think it might be your fan belt How can you tell your timing belt on your car is going?i just had mine go out in the middle of I-70 in missouri if anyone knows that road at all they could only imagine how bad it would be to load a car on a dolly in rain during rush hour-- but we lived like an hour a half away so we were stuck on side of the road for 8 hrs didnt know that was that caused car had 180k miles on it not sure when last time it was changed but now i know how bad it can be and will definitely be scheduling the replacement more often although it costs about $400 for just the change-- on top of dolly/towing and gas to get it to place if it breaks on youHow can you tell your timing belt on your car is going?Typical belt life is judged in miles of driving. Other than removing the cover and observing the belt, you will find it very hard to tell. Some old belts look great, that is untill it breaks. Play it safe, if in doubt, change the belt and if the water pump is timming belt driven, change it also. How can you tell your timing belt on your car is going? Not really you could take the cover off and see if the belt has deteriorated or has oil on it(oil destroys rubber).

It is best to replace the belt every 100,000km because if the belt breaks the valves hit the pistons and engine rebuilds are not cheep.

The t/belt it self is not expanive some are only $30. How can you tell your timing belt on your car is going? They act great right up till the moment they snap, that is why so many people don't schedule a replacement at the recommended interval.

It is quite costly if you lose that gamble, on some engines major internal damage can occur when it breaks.

So how bout' it, ya feel lucky?

In case your young that was Clint Eastwood haha. How can you tell your timing belt on your car is going?there is no way to tell. you go by the recommended mileage and be happy. if you wait to long on some engines, you will hate your self for waiting. How can you tell your timing belt on your car is going?the clock starts running slow.

sorry, couldn't resist -- the 1st two guys got it right. How can you tell your timing belt on your car is going?for 1 thing it will backfire and you will lose power. How can you tell your timing belt on your car is going?pull the cover and have a lookHow can you tell your timing belt on your car is going?NO.

That is why they are swapped out at every 60K miles no matter what.
