When people buy a car do they think about how it has a timing belt and thats an extra $1000 down the road?

When most people shop for a new economy car, do they think about the fact that some have dohc and a timing belt and thats an extra possibly $1000 dollars down the road when the TB interval comes? It seems weird to me that auto manufacturers would design cars that are going to eventually require that kind of expensive maintenance. When people buy a car do they think about how it has a timing belt and thats an extra $1000 down the road?do people like to ask the same question twice? When people buy a car do they think about how it has a timing belt and thats an extra $1000 down the road?well it makes the manufacturers money, doesn't it. In the end, their only looking out for themselves. When people buy a car do they think about how it has a timing belt and thats an extra $1000 down the road?Sounds to me like life experience. Next time you'll know what to ask and look for. It happens to the best of us!When people buy a car do they think about how it has a timing belt and thats an extra $1000 down the road?In EVERY car built there are expensive repairs and maintenance down the road. Do you think a car can be built that will NEVER need repairs???

Be serious, pal. When people buy a car do they think about how it has a timing belt and thats an extra $1000 down the road?Yes they take it into account if they're smart. Auto manufactures design cars this way for several reasons. While, timing belts require periodic replacement they offer several advantages over chain or gear based systems. The first and biggest reason why Timing belts are used is that they are lighter than chains and gears. Less rotating mass inside the engine allows greater performance and fuel economy. Also, timing belts are quieter than chains and gears. Finally, timing belts are cheaper to manufacture so presumably you pay less for a car with a timing belt. In the long run, I think both systems probably come out about even in price with timing belt driven cars becoming the better choice every time the price of gas increases. When people buy a car do they think about how it has a timing belt and thats an extra $1000 down the road?I don't buy cars with timing belts.

They're just a problem waiting to happen.
