How much should it cost to have a new timing belt installed into my 2001 mitsubishi eclipse spider?

i dont want to get screwed when i take my car into the shop to have the timing belt replaced. Anyone have a rough idea what it should cost with parts and labor? How much should it cost to have a new timing belt installed into my 2001 mitsubishi eclipse spider?Just the timing belt:

$400-$600

but they should probably do the water pump too along with other scheduled maintenance depending on your mileage. The 60,000/90,000 intervals are important, so the can get costly, but t-belt and water pump shouldn't cost more than $700/$800 depending where you go....How much should it cost to have a new timing belt installed into my 2001 mitsubishi eclipse spider?Do yourself a favor and make sure to go to the dealer for the timing belt work. Regular mechanics have no idea how to work on a Mits properly.

If it's a 4 cylinder motor you will also need to replace the balance shaft belt. You may also need tension and/or idler pulleys depending on the mileage. The water pump is recommended if over 80,000 miles.

4 hours labor plus parts for a 4 cylinder, 5 hours labor plus parts for a 6 cylinder. An extra 1/2 hour labor for the water pump with the timing belt job.
