How do I replace the front timing belt idler on a 1999 Ford Contour, small 4 cyl.?

Under timing belt cover, allen-head bolt on idler appears accessible. Would like to release some belt tension, R%26amp;R idler %26amp; re-tension belt, being careful not to let belt move. Will mark belt %26amp; pulleys beforehand. Is this possible? Suggestions? How do I replace the front timing belt idler on a 1999 Ford Contour, small 4 cyl.?now I read your problem, ok lets start with some critical points once you have removed the plasic or metal belt cover you really should set the upper and lower pullys to the pointing locaters but in a push you need to take a sraight edge and create a line across the pully and on the block use as small a permanent marker as you can a tip as the pullies must be spot on when belt is reinstalled. your tensioner is spring loaded and bolted in place when you remove the belt the pully will mostly go unsprung.
