My timing belt on my ford zx2 keeps shredding. How can I stop this?

I have a 98 Ford Escort Zx2 that keeps eating timing belts soon after I put a new one on. I have replaced the tensioner and the two pulleys yet still have the same problem. I am stumped on this one and I was told I have to replace the head which I would rather not do seeing as it could be quite costly. If anyone has had this problem before or know how to fix it could you please help me?My timing belt on my ford zx2 keeps shredding. How can I stop this?Make sure that everything is at the PROPER tension, the factory service manual or aftermarket service manual will have proper instructions.

Also make sure you're using the proper motor oil in the engine.

Also make sure nothing is contacting the belt, such as shields, oil, or debris.

Shredding timing belts is a serious serious problem. The zetec 2.0 engine is a non-interference engine, but ONLY when its spun by hand. At higher RPM speeds it can actually become an interference engine because of close tolerances, and cause internal damage.

It it were me, I'd either take it to a proper mechanic for a compression check, and maybe a scope test, or I would put a new belt on it, clean it up, and sell it 'as is' while it was running!!!My timing belt on my ford zx2 keeps shredding. How can I stop this?thanks for the advice but i ended up buying another engine for it. runs great now. only 33,000 miles instead of 140,000 too

My timing belt on my ford zx2 keeps shredding. How can I stop this?If you can leave the cover off, %26amp; try it %26amp; look at it when it is running you may see something.

Put a straight edge along the two pulleys to see if they are running true.

Providing it is all fitted properly %26amp; the pulleys

are in line %26amp; it is not fouling the cover, I see no reason for replacing the head.

I presume you are not fitting cheap belts. My timing belt on my ford zx2 keeps shredding. How can I stop this?Dump the POS and get a Toyota!
