If my timing belt broke as im driving?

im guessing i wont be able to accelerate rite? what would i hear? just a loud clanking and flapping noise from the hood? also.. say the belt is already broke and i try to start it. what would i hear then? i know it'll probably break my pistons and whatnot. how often should i change my timing belt?If my timing belt broke as im driving?I had this happen to me. The timing belt broke and the engine just died. Lost my power steering and braking, which can be hard for some people.

If this happens, there is a chance for engine damage depending on the engine type, interference or non-interference. An interference engine means the maximum height of the pistons is enough to reach the lowest point of the valves. If that happens you would most likely bend your valves and damage the piston, which usually junks the car. This could also happen if you try to start the car with an interference engine after the belt brakes, so be careful.

My mechanic told me the timing belt should be changed about 75,000 miles. This question could be more accurately answered by a dealer technician. If my timing belt broke as im driving? The engine would shut down, you would likely lose power steering and brakes, you car would coast to a stop wherever you happened to be, you could spin the engine with the starter it would spin but not fire up.If my timing belt broke as im driving? If your timming belt broke, you would hear massive metal crashing cause your valves would hit the pistons. Your timming belt should be replaced every 60,000 miles to prevent this.If my timing belt broke as im driving? You'd be in worse trouble if it happens while you're driving. A lot of major damage can occur that way. I've seen it drive pistons right through the bottom of the engine.

If it's already broken, and you try to start it, nothing will happen. You'll hear the engine sound like it's trying to start, but it won't engage, and no damage will occur. It's suggested that you change it every 60,000 - 70,000 miles. I've never given it that long. I've always changed it at 50,000 miles. If my timing belt broke as im driving? The engine will stop immediately and you will not be able to accelerate. Any subsequent attempts at starting will result in further damage to the engine. A timing belt which breaks when the engine is running may damage your cylinder head, camshaft, valves, pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft and even the engine block.

Timing belts should be replaced every 60,000 miles, with periodic checks in between to ensure it is in sound condition.
