How hard is it to replace a timing belt on a Hyundai Elantra?

I want to buy this car. It costs $500 and is from '99 but the timing belt is broke and I don't know if I should buy this car because I'm worried that it will be too hard to replace the belt myself or cost too much to have a mechanic do it. Let me know what you think as well as any websites that give directions on how to actually do it.How hard is it to replace a timing belt on a Hyundai Elantra?I agree, I would pass on this car. There could be head problems etc... If the car is immaculate body wise and interior wise, offer them 75 dollarsHow hard is it to replace a timing belt on a Hyundai Elantra?%26gt; but the timing belt is broke

Many of the engines are %26quot;interference%26quot; design. What that means is if the timing belt breaks, the valves will clash and cause engine damage.

So the bigger question is this:

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; Is this engine an interference design%26quot;

Because if it is, the whole engine is shot and needs rebuilt or replacement.
